The Citadelle des Morts Zombies map is live in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 with Season 1 Reloaded. This is a new castle map with a main storyline quest that's rooted in magic and medieval swords. This map's narrative picks up after the events of the Terminus main storyline, and we'll guide you through all the steps needed to complete this hidden quest.

If you're looking for even more story, make sure to check out our guide on how to unlock a hidden cutscene for Maya.

Just like the past two maps, completing this storyline quest will reward you with an operator skin, calling card, and additional rewards. Completing this early before the guided Director mode arrives will reward you with a unique stamp on your calling card, so everyone knows you did the hard work.

The guided Director mode will arrive weeks after launch, and it will not unlock the operator skin or give the special stamp on the calling card. If you still want to complete Liberty Falls without guided assistance, we have a full story quest guide here.

How to get started with the Citadelle Des Morts story quest

The map holds your hand through the first part, guiding you through the castle to unlock the Pack-a-Punch machine. You'll follow the orange icons and work through the steps. Once you've unlocked Pack-a-Punch the map stops giving you prompts.

From this point, you'll need to go to the nearby Quick Revive room and interact with the wooden door. This lets you speak with Gabriel Krafft and get a cutscene.

This is where the main steps begin. Citadelle Des Morts's story quest is all about upgrading swords to elemental variants and using magic to do various incantations. You need all four of the map's elemental sword Wonder Weapons to complete these incantations.

You can only hold one sword at a time, but you can still do this quest solo, as you're able to upgrade swords and then place them back into their matching statue's hand to swap them out for another one. However, this works best in a full squad of four, as you can divide up the duties and have everyone work on a sword quest.

Now, you're ready to start upgrading your swords, and we have our full guide for all four elemental swords here. You can upgrade all swords first, or you can do them as needed for the steps in this guide. The order doesn't matter.

    Collect four book pages

The main quest requires you to collect pages from a book of magic. The spawns can vary, but all pages are found either inside the castle's Sitting Room or just outside the room. They all have glowing red runes on them like the image above.

Collect the four pages in your match.

    Complete Undercroft puzzle

You or someone in your party will need the Melee Macchiato perk. Go to the castle's Undercroft (near Stamin-Up) and punch the busted-looking section wall shown in the image above. Punching it with the perk equipped will reveal a puzzle wall.

Now, you'll want to go back to the tavern, which is near the map's spawn. Inside the tavern will be six small glass bottles, each labeled with Roman numerals. This goes from 1-6, and you need to interact with each bottle and make note of the symbol that corresponds with each bottle number. Take screenshots or write them down because the order here is important.

Go back to the puzzle wall in the Undercroft. You need to shoot the symbols from the tavern in the order they are given on the bottles.

Note: After you shoot each symbol, the order on the puzzle will scramble, but don't worry; just keep shooting the correct symbols in the proper order.

Successfully completing this step will give you an audio cue, and a red orb will transfer from the puzzle wall to an area just to the left of it. This reveals a hidden spell book. Interact with it to place the torn pages you just collected from the Sitting Room.

    Complete Point of Power traps

The book in the Undercroft will reveal four symbols on the pages in a specific order. The order you need to read them in is: top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right.

These symbols match the Points of Power traps found around the map. These are the small rune-like symbols you can use as a zombie trap. Go to the map's corresponding Point of Power trap and use them in the order the book shows you, as mentioned above.

Just use the traps one by one in order. Activate it and kill zombies until the trap finishes. You'll know you did it right because you'll get dialogue from Krafft, and the symbol will no longer be glowing in the book.

Krafft will give you more dialogue once you've completed all four.

    Collect ritual items

You need to collect four ritual items related to the four elemental sword types, which can be completed in any order. Then, we'll go through the steps needed to upgrade each item.

    Pegasus horseshoe

You need the Horseshoe found above the door inside the barn by Deadshot Daiquiri. Shoot it to make it fall so you can collect it.

Then, take the Horseshoe to the giant cannon used to open the castle. With the cannon facing the spawn area, interact with it to shoot yourself out of the cannon. Doing this creates an electric storm cloud somewhere above the spawn area, so look up in the sky after you land. Go to the part of the map with the storm cloud to find the Pegasus horseshoe ritual item. Pick it up.

    Ra's Ankh

For this, you'll need the fire sword or three Molotovs. You can make Molotovs at the crafting bench using Salvage.

Go to the cannon. You'll need to throw a Molotov or use the sword at three different burn piles while standing up this upper wall near the cannon.

    • One is a burn pile just above the archway leading towards Elemental Pop. Stand on the cannon side, and look up above the archway.
    • Another is found in the distance when looking just beyond the acid trap that points near Speed Cola.
    • Another is dead center above the castle's main entrance

Fireballs shoot out each time you light a burn pile. Completing them all will spawn a Doppelghast. Kill it and it will drop Ra's Ankh ritual item to pick up.

    Paladin's Brooch

Head into the Dining Hall with the statues. Above the main entrance is a crystal you can shoot. This will create a beam, and you'll notice there are additional crystals around the room and in the nearby Alchemical Lab. Start with the crystal above Vulture Aid.

You want to shoot these crystals until they all connect and the beam reaches the table in the Alchemical Room as shown above.

    Pick up the Paladin's Brooch.

    Raven Talon

Go to the Pack-a-Punch room. There's a Cave Slide for fast travel to the spawn. Use it, and near the end of your slide, you'll see a raven perched on the right side of the rocks. You need to shoot it to make it fly off. As soon as you pop out of the slide, look up and shoot the raven out of the sky. This will drop the Raven Talon ritual item. Pick it up.

    Upgrade each quest item

Just like collecting the ritual items, these can be upgraded in any order. However, for this part of the main quest, you will need the four elemental swords mentioned earlier.

    Paladin's Brooch

After grabbing the Paladin's Brooch, a yellow rune will spawn in the Dining Hall. Interact with it and kill zombies around it. When the process is complete a glowing box will spawn. You need the Solias light sword to melee the box open. Collect the Light Incantation that drops from the box.

    Ra's Ankh

For the Ankh, the glowing rune is just outside the castle entrance. Complete the same process as the previous ritual upgrade. Kill zombies until the box spawns. You'll need the Caliburn fire sword to open this one. Grab the Fire Incantation item.

    Pegasus horseshoe

The rune for the horseshoe is found inside the spawn area. Same process. Activate it and kill zombies until the box spawns. You'll need the Durendal lightning sword to melee it unlocked. Collect the Storm incantation.

    Raven Talon

This rune is located down in the Undercroft. This is the same process. Activate and kill zombies. This box will need to be opened with the Balmung void sword. Grab the Dark Incantation.

    Salute the statues

With all four incantations collected, you can now go to the back wall of the Undercroft Stairway. A new diagram will appear. This shows all four incantations and each will have a numerical number associated with it. This is the order you need to complete these in. It will be different each time.

Now that you know the order, go to the Dining Hall. There are now four incantation boxes for each element.

Starting with the first in the order, grab the matching incantation and then interact with the corresponding statue. Do this by pressing L1 to use the incantation, and that will cause the statue to glow. And while the statue is glowing from the incantation you just used, you need to do a weapon inspection animation with the sword. This is holding left on the D-pad for consoles.

These can be matched up with the statues and swords as follows:

    • Raven: Dark/Void
    • Lion: Light
    • Stag: Lightning/Storm
    • Dragon: Fire

Do this for each statue in the order you were given on the diagram.

If done right, a glowing orb will descend from above and connect the statues with light beams. You need to collect the orb.

    Charge the orb

With the orb collected, you'll now need to visit four areas to charge the orb for each elemental. This can be done in any order, but each time you will need to place the orb and complete a process to charge the orb. This process is mostly the same for all but the Lion/Light step, so we'll start there first.

For the Lion/Light area, you need to place it upstairs on the wall in the Dining Hall. Zombies will spawn, but your main objective is to survive and stand in the green orbs in the room until they each disappear. Once the green orbs are done, you'll get dialogue from Krafft and you can collect the orb and move on.

For the Dragon/Fire step, make sure you have the fire sword equipped. Take the orb just outside the castle entrance, and there's a place you can place the orb on the ledge out front. You need to kill zombies by the orb using fire. This can be with the fire special on the sword (L1/R1) but if this isn't charged, kill zombies with the regular melee attack until it's charged. You can also use Molotovs or the fire incantation.

For the Lightning step, take the orb to the spawn area. You can place the orb near the entrance with the incantation box. This is for the Stag, and you'll need this sword to kill zombies around the orb. Use the sword's special charged attack or storm incantation.

Lastly, for the Raven/Dark elemental, take the orb down to the Undercroft. Place the orb in the holder on the wall. Kill zombies there with the Dark incantation or the sword's special elemental attack.

Once the orb is charged with all four, you can prepare for the boss fight.

    Boss fight prep

You'll want to get Legendary rarity weapons for this fight. The GS45 pistols with akimbo attachment is a good choice, and you'll want this to be Pack-a-Punch tier three. An LMG or assault rifle with tier three upgrades will also come in handy. It's likely to get patched, but right now, the Drill melee weapon at Legendary rarity and fully-Pack-a-Punched is very powerful against the boss, and the strategy is to use Aether Shroud field upgrade to get close to him and melee with the drill.

This is an enclosed area, so Chopper Gunner killstreaks won't help you, but the Mutant Injection streak is a good choice for staying alive while dealing damage to the boss with the Mangler's cannon.

Make sure you have all your essential perks. I equipped the Perkaholic Gobblegum for my run, so could focus my points on Pack-a-Punch upgrades, but try to at least buy your essentials like Juggernog, Quick-Revive, and Speed Cola.

Gobblegums like Phoenix Up are helpful here, so you can pick up downed teammates and let them keep their perks. The Max Ammo Gobblegum is great, especially if you are using the GS45 akimbo pistols, because they do breeze through ammo, and buying ammo from the crate gets expensive. The Killjoy gum to spawn Insta-Kill power-ups can help with Zombies might also be useful.

    Boss fight

When ready, go to the Undercroft Stairway with the elemental diagram you used earlier for the statue order. There is an empty place at the center where you can place the charged orb.

You'll get a brief bit of dialogue and need to pick up a key. After, go to the spawn area and interact with the giant statue in the fountain at the town center.

This begins the boss fight. He's a giant statue with a hammer, and the fight plays out in three stages. This isn't timed, so take your time and stay safe.

Stage one he has a slam/fire attack. Just stay moving around and avoid this.

This boss has so much shield and it just feels like you're chipping away at armor plates forever unless you're using the recommended Legendary rarity weapons or the drill. Eventually, you'll do enough damage to make weak glowing spots appear on the boss. As your Gamer Brain may instinctively tell you, focus on these.

Unfortunately, the weak spots disappear for stage two. You just have to chip away and get new weak spots to appear. Lava/fire will start spreading around the arena, so you'll need to be more careful about where you step.

Lastly, his chest is open/weak in the third stage. Just shoot his chest until he dies, and you will complete the Citadelle Des Morts main story quest.
