Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Protorelic Challenges Guide

There's a lot of stuff that you can do in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Some activities might take you off the beaten path, even leading to unexpected objectives and outcomes. Here's our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Protorelics guide to help you with each region's optional quest chain. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Protorelics guide

The Protorelics in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are a type of World Intel activity. In most cases, you won't see these objectives on the map just yet. That's because you may need to advance further or fully complete a region's main story arc.

Once the first Phenomena Intel or Protorelic task becomes available, Chadley will inform you. The icon--which looks like a Horde/Orgrimmar outpost for some reason--will then appear.

Protorelic objectives need to be completed in order--i.e. after finishing the first task, you have to go to the second marker that appears on the map, and so on. You may even have to partake in minigames in some regions.

The example above shows the Protorelic tasks in the Grasslands region. As you can see, you have to roam the length and breadth of the zone, often with the help of a trusty Chocobo mount.

    Grasslands Protorelic: Beck's Badasses

    Grasslands Protorelic: Beck's Badasses

Beck's gang is back for another round. This time, they're trying to "go legit," even if they have the Protorelic that you need. You can expect to encounter the following in this particular foray:

    • Protorelic step #1 - A battle against three of the bandits.
    • Protorelic step #2 - A stealth minigame where you have to make it inside their outpost.
    • Protorelic step #3 - Guess the person who's hiding the Protorelic behind them. Note that it was Burke in our playthrough, though we can't confirm if it's different for other players.
    • Protorelic step #4 - A battle against the entire gang, now bolstered by a Modded Sweeper.
    Junon Protorelic: Fort Condor

    Junon Protorelic: Fort Condor

The Fort Condor minigame returns as an activity for the Junon Protorelic in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The goal here is to send out your "blocky" troops to assault lanes, somewhat akin to tower defense or MOBA mechanics. Naturally, enemy forces will also attempt to advance, so be sure to counter them with the right units. You can learn more in our Fort Condor guide.

Corel Protorelic: Modular Reactor - Cactuar Rocks and Kid G's Trials

Corel Protorelic: Modular Reactor - Cactuar Rocks and Kid G's Trials

This Protorelic in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth presents quite a doozy. Here's a quick summary:

    • The initial goal is to look for a Modular Reactor, which looks like a building with overgrown cacti.
    • You can't enter it, so you have to look for a Cactuar Rock. This is done by shining a beam that points to the general direction of that landmark.
    • Defeat enemies and grab the key, which is used to enter the Modular Reactor.
    • Inside, you have to partake in combat trials where you need to defeat dozens of Cactuar mobs. Oh, and you can only use a specific character for each trial.

There's also a certain gap where you won't be able to continue the arc until you progress further. In any case, you can learn more about these tidbits in our Modular Reactor/Cactuar Rocks guide.

    Gongaga Protorelic: Turks Training Facility

    Gongaga Protorelic: Turks Training Facility

This quest chain tends to be simpler than the rest, where the goal is to defeat waves of enemies. It's in Gongaga, and the facilities are run by the Turks. We don't want to spoil anything, but you can probably put two and two together.

Cosmo Canyon Protorelic: Gears and Gambits

Cosmo Canyon Protorelic: Gears and Gambits

This is another unique minigame. Here's the gist:

    • You can equip your robot drones with different types of elemental weapons, which are triggered based on conditions. These include prioritizing enemies with a certain elemental weakness, or healing/buffing when below 50% health.
    • The goal is to defeat the King Flan in the center of the arena within the given time limit.
    • Multiple hostile Flans will also spawn, and they'll attempt to destroy your portals.
    • The King Flan also has different abilities that are triggered depending on certain conditions. For instance, if four robots are targeting it, it will leap and crash down to deal massive damage.

It does sound a bit complex, but there are certain loadouts that should make this challenge a cakewalk. You can learn more in our Gears and Gambits guide.

    Nibel Protorelic: Black-Robed Throng

    Nibel Protorelic: Black-Robed Throng

First off: it's "throng," not "thong"--don't expect Cloud and co. to start chasing people in tiny bikinis. Second: it does involve the mysterious fellas shambling around while wearing black robes.

The basic premise is that you have to follow and nudge them along until they reach their destinations, which are abandoned Shinra facilities. Inside, you have to defeat higher-level fiends until they spit out the Protorelic parts that they've consumed.

    The Eccentric Swordsman

    The Eccentric Swordsman

Whenever you complete a region's four-part Protorelic quest chain, a special cutscene will play. It shows an Eccentric Swordsman who seems to have Cloud in his sights. You can learn more about this fella in our Gilgamesh summon guide.

In any case, these are the Phenomenon Intel or Protorelics in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. For other exploration and combat-related activities, you can visit our World Intel guide.

A grand adventure awaits you in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. We've got all the tips and strategies for you in our FF7 Rebirth guides hub.
